Aspen the Yorkie

It’s a rainy day here in NJ, not fun to be outside, and there are no squirrels to bark at or chase right now. So the next best thing is getting my owner to put another post on my blog.

Do any of you cook for your dogs? I don’t know how to cook, but I sure do love eating. My FAVORITE food is chicken, whenever they have chicken for dinner here, I get a little bit. Beef gives me a tummy ache, and it’s not good to give yorkies seasoned meats, but chicken, or chicken livers, yum!

My owner has a really nice eBook of dog food and snack recipes, 130 of them!! And it only costs $1.25.

She has a cat recipe eBook for the same price, 100 recipes. We have a black cat that hangs around our yard ALL the time, I don’t think she has a home, and think that if I wasn’t here, my owner would feel sorry enough for it to take it in, but she found out that it is a ferrel cat (we’re not sure how to spell ferrel?) and that a cat-loving neighbor feeds it. So that made her feel much better.

I just wanted to let you know that two more pages were added to the “pages” section of the blog today (see the list of pages to the right)….one about aging pets, and another with the start of a list of food recalls, food warnings, and foods that are not dangerous for you, but may be dangerous for me.

Hope you had a great weekend, my family was out a lot at church and visiting family, I missed them.

Yes, that’s me above, asking one of my owners to please throw my stuffed bunny for me while he tries to sit and relax. I’m a bit overdue for a grooming, and it looks like it, doesn’t it? Usually my hair grows pretty long in the winter, and my owner trims it, and puts it in a pretty bow, I hadn’t had my daily grooming in the picture above.

In the early summer, when it starts getting warm, I get a nice short “puppy cut”. Shorter even than in the picture below…this is my favorite picture, after I was groomed once.

My owner just added a new page to the blog, look under the list of pages for “Treating Ticks and Fleas”, or something like that. Spring is coming, and some of you live in climates that are warm all the time, so please, be sure to keep those itchy little pests away from your pets…it’s miserable when they bite, I know!

I get terrible allergic reactions to flea bites, just one little bite is enough to cause a rash over almost all of my body, so I was really happy when she read this article! Take a look a the “Pages” list to the right, you’ll find it!

People who take care of pets for their owners when they can’t be there are very special people, and this is a special week in the year when Pet Sitters are honored.

I’m doing good now after my dental appointment! Here’s some more pictures for you. These were taken somewhere between 9 and 10 weeks, after I moved into my new home. I was REALLY good and only woke up once the first night, that is because my new people lived right next door and I got to know them really well before I moved in. For a while, I could still go next door and play with my brother, and sometimes he came over and played with me, but now my Daddy and brother live in Florida. But I’m a happy dog because everyone here loves me so much!

In the picture on the left, my ears are down, I’m about 10 weeks old. In the picture next to it, a taken at about 12 weeks, you’ll see me with my ears up! My ears had a lot of hair on them, so my owner cut off all the extra hair, and the next day they were standing up…she went next door and did the same thing to my brother, and it worked for him, too.

What a long day it’s been. It started at about 7 am this morning, my owner is never up very early, but today she was! She came and put my harness on me and I thought we were on our way to a fun adventure, but it didn’t take long for me to figure out the route we were driving was to the vet.

When I got there, a lady talked to my owner about my teeth, she told her that some of my teeth had already fallen out. My owner felt bad, and said that she had dogs when she was young and they never had their teeth cleaned, I guess they were pretty big dogs.

I don’t remember a lot after that, I was in a cage, and sleepy, then woke up feeling drugged…when it was time to go home, the technician talked to my owner again, and showed her how many teeth had already fallen out, and how many were pulled. She’s too embarrassed to type how many.

I’ve been whining ever since I got home…heard the owner call the vet to see if it was pain…guess they decided it isn’t, I just really feel weird. Now it’s late, and I’ve quieted down, ate some soft food for dinner, drank a lot of water, and even got my usual treat, but they made it soft. I think I’m going to have to eat soft food from how on.

If you’re a little dog, make sure you keep up with your dentals, and clean your dogs teeth.

Tomorrow is the day that I get my teeth cleaned. I had a nice bath, my hair trimmed, and am a big ball of fluff now because I haven’t been groomed in a while. My owner likes my hair to be long to keep me warm in the winter.

I overheard a phone call from the vet, and I think that my food dish and water dish will disappear at midnight tonight, since they will be putting me to sleep for the cleaning…hmm, maybe a better way of saying that since I’m a dog is that they will be anesthetizing me.

I’m so not looking forward to this…will let you know how it goes tomorrow.
