Walking Your Dog for a Good Cause

Aspen | Other Sites,Yorkie Health,walking | Saturday, 25 April 2009

The weather is getting warmer, and my owner and I are starting to go for more walks. We really need the exercise because it was such a long, cold winter in the northeast, and we are really out of shape!

Walking is one of our favorite things to do together, and now it has new meaning, because Bumble Bee, best known in our house for their tuna (I even like it!) is donating money to help fight Breast Cancer for miles that you walk.

What you do is go to the BeeWellMiles.com website and record the number of BeeWell Miles that you walk on the days when you do walk. If you need help calculating the miles that you walk, use a Pedometer, or take your car out and drive the route you walk and use your odometer to calculate the miles, or use the helps at the website. We like the idea of using a Pedometer.

Between 4/1/09 and 10/31/09 Bumble Bee Foods will donate 15 cents per mile for every mile that you log at BeeWellMiles.com up to $200,000 dollars. The money will help the Breast Cancer Network of Strength in their effort to help provide a cure for this terrible disease.

When you visit the site, you’ll find other helpful resources…there are healthy living experts, you can log your miles and see how many calories you have burned, and more. You can learn how you are doing as far as calories in the meals you plan, and share ideas with other guests to the site. Every day that you visit and log your miles, you are eligible to win one of 15,000 prizes. So lets start walking and recording those miles for this great cause!

Have a nice weekend.

A Fun Day on Twitter

Aspen | Twitter | Saturday, 25 April 2009

Today, all day I filled in for my owner on Twitter, and it has been fun.  It’s been so fun that I’m going to be filling in for her for the rest of the weekend.  I know it’s going to be hard to get her on the computer to type for me since the weather is supposed to be so nice and she’s going to want to be outside, but I’m going to do the best I can.

She even has my picture as the avatar on Twitter right now, please follow us if you aren’t already, we’re at http://twitter.com/happynutrition

Have a super weekend, and see you on Twitter!

Grooming Your Own Yorkie Dog

I’ve been thinking about how nice it would be if my owner would get around to clipping the hair around my eyes, and my nails. She gave me a bath and trimmed most of my hair about a week ago. She gets a little nervous with the scissors around the eyes, so I’m trying to get her to look into the Yorkie grooming instructions provided by clicking here, especially since this is specifically about grooming Yorkies, right down to the littlest detail, and because the Yorkie in the picture at the site looks just like me!

And for some more grooming information, let me remind you about some of the posts we have already written on this blog:

  1. Cleaning a dog’s teeth – this was an article we found that tells you how to clean your dogs teeth, and how important it is.  We posted it back when I was having tooth problems.
  2. How my owner groomed me – this post is from almost a year ago, we share in simple terms how I was groomed, but not with the great detail you’ll find in this yorkie grooming instructional resource.
  3. Clipping your dogs nails – here’s another page that we did that you should find helpful, my nails are quite long now, and need trimming.
  4. Not grooming may cause ear infections - this is about ear infections, but has some information about how not grooming the ears properly can lead to infected ears in dogs.

Those are just a few things that we hope will help you, and now it’s time for us to stop blogging so I can beg for treats and then my owner can try to start working on some quilting.

Next Week It’s My Turn on Twitter

Aspen | Twitter | Friday, 17 April 2009

On friday my owner does something called “followfriday”, that means you suggest people that you know and like to other “followers” on Twitter.  You do that by sending a message that has this word and symbol – #followfriday in your “tweet” and then you put the user names of people who follow you in the “tweet” with @ in front of it, for example, my owner is @happynutrition.

NEXT WEEK we are going to tweet about our dog and pet loving followers on “follow friday” so if you aren’t following us yet, please do!  Click here to follow me and my owner, I share my owner’s account.

Everyone’s Talking About “Bo” Obama

Aspen | Other Pets,White House Dogs | Monday, 13 April 2009

I’m sure I have to be just one of hundreds of blogs and websites that are talking about President Obama’s new dog, Bo.  What CUTE pictures they keep showing on the news. Here are some of the facts about the cute little puppy, Bo:

  • He’s a 6 months old
  • He’s NOT a Yorkie like me, but a Portuguese Water Dog
  • Bo moves into the White House tomorrow
  • Bo is a gift from Senator Ted Kennedy, who owns more than a few Portuguese Water Dogs
  • Bo is named after First Lady Michelle Obama’s late father’s nickname.
  • Like me, Bo is hypoallergenic…I think that means he must have hair, not fur. I know that’s true for Yorkies…we have hair, so are much less likely to cause allergies.
  • President Obama and Bo will share the same initials!
  • Can you think of any other “Bo facts” to share?  Let us know in a comment

Congratulations to the Obama family on owning a dog, it’s fun and my owner and I think the dog is cute, even if it isn’t a Yorkie like me.

Now we have to go track down some information about Portuguese Water Dogs.  We really don’t know a lot about them.

Also, we’re wondering whether Bo will do video’s like Barney, the former White House Dog?
