Bone Health and Yorkshire Terriers

Aspen the Yorkie | Uncategorized | Thursday, 21 October 2010

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Marvelous Products. All opinions are 100% mine.

I am over 11 years old now, and like many Yorkies and other dogs my age, I'm feeling it in my legs. I could be doing worse, but my owners take good care of me. They make sure that I eat well, that the food they feed me has the nutrients in it I need, and they are careful NOT to give me foods that I'm sensitive to. Yorkies have sensitive stomachs. The great thing is, because they take care of me so well, I can still jump up on the couch and right up onto the back of the big padded rocking chair to bark at things out the window, not bad for a dog my age!

One thing you should know about Yorkshire Terriers is that the bones in our legs can be very delicate. Some Yorkie's legs may be stronger than others, depending upon heredity and size, but generally, the bones are quite thin. If you have a Yorkie, take a moment to feel the legs and you'll see what I mean.

Also, just like you, as we get older, all dogs get aches and pains in our joints. And just like humans, we can take supplements to help this, like Glucosamine Chondroitin MSM for dogs.

Yes, the very same thing that humans buy at the health food store, but carefully formulated just for dogs. My owner has a big bottle of this, she said it's Veterinarian recommended, and a value if you purchase the Value Size Glucosamine Chondroitin MSM for dogs.

This product contains some other strange sounding things that my owner knows about because she is a nutritionist, things like Hyaluronic Acid, MSM, Green-Lipped Mussels, Boswellia and Essential Fatty Acids. She thinks that big dogs will do just fine starting right in with this, and small dogs should do fine, too, but start out slowly and give with a meal…small dogs have more tender digestive systems, I know I do. The boswellia for dogs is a new herb that helps with joint inflammation.

It shouldn't be hard to get your dog to take these, the ones we have are Bacon flavored, yummy, and don't contain starch, soy, corn, wheat, dairy, gluten or any artificial colors or fragrances. There are no preservatives, but the expiration date is 3 years from now. My owner says the Vitamin E and other natural ingredients will take care of preserving the product.

So, if you're looking for something that will help your dog renew their joint cartilage and help with painful flare-ups, this Natural joint product for dogs may be just what you're looking for.

I forgot to tell you something very important, if you use the coupon code "OsteoPet22", you get a one time 10% discount off anything purchased at the Marvelous Products store.

Irritated Red Eyes in a Dog

Aspen | Dog Ailments,Dog Eye Problems,Eye Infections | Saturday, 16 October 2010

Lately we’ve had a hard time keeping my tear ducts clear and eyes clear of the mucous or whatever that “goo” is that gets in the eye. We went to the vet, and were told that it was allergies.

My owner was trying the home-made drops that she uses for my infections that she makes with Golden Seal, an herb that kills infection, but the Vet didn’t think they were infected. He said that it was more likely to be allergy related. Because of the allergies, my eyes make more goo, which dries in my tear ducts, so my owner has to clean them, which I hate, but it feels good when it’s done.

The vet suggested saline solution, and when we went to the pharmacy to get some, they told us to buy a large bottle of “Sensitive Eyes” Saline Solution by Bausch & Lomb or similar company that makes the same thing rather than waste our money on those little bottles of eye drops. It cost under $4.00 at the time we bought the big bottle and lasts a LONG time. The bottle has a dropper type top with a little lid, so is handy to use right from the big bottle.

Getting the drops into my eyes can be interesting because I like to fight the process as much as possible, but by owner somehow gently but firmly holds the scruff of my neck…the same place a mother dog uses to carry her puppies, and then holds back my eyelid somehow and squeezes a few drops into my eyes…it’s tricky, but she does it, then gently picks away the dried “stuff” from the corner of my eyes, and if necessary gently wipes the “goo” from my eyes with a cotton ball made damp with the eye drops.

She also makes sure that the hair is trimmed around my eyes so that it doesn’t get into my eyes, another thing that causes irritation.

Even though I fight the process, it feels good when it’s all done!

Yorkie vs PlayStation – Who Will Win?

Aspen | Other Sites | Saturday, 02 October 2010

This is a Sponsored Post written by me on behalf of PlayStation MOVE. All opinions are 100% mine.

Great! Now there is a new way for pet owners, Yorkie owners, and their children to get distracted so that they won’t play with us as much as they used to. Yep, there is a new, fun game in town and it’s called PlayStation®Move. It’s already hard enough to compete with the computers and television, now there is something else.

Why is this game going to be so distracting? Because it’s FUN! I’m fun, too, and I’m sure they’d still remember me if they decide to get one of these game systems, which seem to be a little different.

We visited the website, and it looks like people of all ages can enjoy an ACTIVE game playing experience.  Brothers and Sisters or parents and kids can play games against each other and get some exercise at the same time.  Oh, don’t assume that this is like other game systems where you get your body involved with the game…this one has some unique qualities and tools for playing that you’re going to want to check out.

For people who already have a PlayStation®3, you can “make it move” for only $99 with the MOVE bundle package.

You know, I don’t think this will be bad after all.  Usually when my owners are distracted by TV or their computers, they’re just sitting there.  With PlayStation®MOVE, they will be moving around more and maybe I can jump around try and distract them when they’re playing…like when one of the big guys here starts getting a “big head” about how he’s doing…I can distract him and help his opponent get a chance.  And all the activity sure would make life more exciting around here.

Yorkie Writings and Pictures on Squidoo

We like to write about Yorkie pictures, health, toys, breeding and other things on this blog, and maybe some of you already know that we also have another favorite place that we like to write.  It’s a site called “Squidoo“.   This week they added a new pet template called “SquidPaws” and lots of our friends posted stories about their pets.  I have done a few pages already on Squidoo, so we thought we’d put them all together on one page called a “Lensography”, so that’s what we did!

If you want to visit my Squidoo lensography, then visit this link to “A Yorkshire Terrier’s (Yorkie) Lensography“.  You’ll find all our pages there, and links to some of our pet and people friends on Squidoo.  I hope you’ll stop by for a visit!
