It sounds like you are on the right track. Just a very little bit of canned pumpkin, about a teaspoon added to the food can add fiber to the diet and help regulate the stools, but for the diarrhea, I'd go for white rice, which is binding, makes stool solid. I have been using Gerber baby dry rice flakes, very lightly sprinkled on the food instead of cooking white rice, because it's something I can always have around and ready to use when needed.

I (Aspen) used to be able to eat anything, but as I've gotten older, my digestive system has gotten more sensitive. Any fatty foods and definitely liver, which is very rich, should be avoided. I hope your dog gets better soon, come back and let us know how things are going.

My little 10 year old Yorkie has had the diarrhea for 2 days. I think it is because I gave her a chicken liver from a chicken we ate that night. She vomited during the night and has had a bad stomach for the last two days. She is not lethargic or acting strange. Just the diarrhea now. My sister who has a dog with a sensitive stomach told be to try cooked sweet potatoes or pumkin. I did that tonight so I hope my dog is better in the morning. Tomorrow, I will also try the boiled chicken and rice and pepcid AC. If she does not improve, then we are headed to the vet.

I hope that you are doing much better. We only had to use the cat food...and you have to get the exact kind mentioned, not just any cat food...for a little while, then worked our way slowly back to the regular food. Chicken mixed with Gerber Baby Rice Flakes (dry, you just tumble it together with the meat...the rice helps clear up diarrhea). If you are not feeling better, do go to your vet, they can help you if you are dehydrated..and just in case your problem is a different one.
