New Picture of Copper, the Rescue Dog

admin | Animal Organizations, Animal Rescue, Dog Sites, Other Pets | Tuesday, 26 August 2008

My friend, Copper, has a new picture sent to me by his owner, Betty Lynch. Copper is a rescue dog, and is settling in to his new home nicely, according to Betty…who may be sitting next to him at her laptop?

You met Copper before, but this is a new picture, and a new reminder to us how important it is to consider adopting a pet. There are many sites to help you with this, start local, though, almost every town has an animal shelter, I know ours does. If your town doesn’t, check nearby towns. There are SOOO many pets that need homes, or just someone to visit them at the shelter and take them for a walk, maybe your shelter needs volunteers.

Help for Abused Animals a Click Away

admin | Animal Organizations, Animal Rescue, Other Sites | Wednesday, 13 August 2008

I hope all my animal and people friends are doing well today!

My owner received an important email from a friend, and her friend checked it out, all appears to be legit, so read on, and see how simple it is to help our animal friends:

“Hi, all you animal lovers. This is pretty simple… Please tell ten friends to tell ten today! The Animal Rescue Site is having trouble getting enough people to click on it daily to meet their quota of getting free food donated every day to abused and neglected animals. It takes less than a minute (How about 20 seconds) to go to their site and click on the purple box ‘fund food for animals’ for free. This doesn’t cost you a thing. Their corporate sponsors/advertisers use the number of daily visits to donate food to abandoned/neglected animals in exchange for advertising.

Here’s the web site! Pass this info along to people you know.

I’m Not Wild but it’s Wildlife Week

admin | Animal Organizations, Wild Animals | Monday, 21 April 2008

I am really wagging my tail today, because I just found out that it’s National Wildlife week. I’m not a wild animal, but love all the little animals outside to be taken good care of so I can bark at them out the window. I especially love the squirrels that come to the bird feeders.

If you go and visit the National Wildlife Federation website you’ll see they said we could put the following video on our sites and blogs, and will find a lot of other good information to help save the animals, protect the environment and more.

admin | About Yorkies, Animal Organizations, Dog Sites, Yorkie Sites | Friday, 11 April 2008

Hey yorkies, and yorkie owners, this is just a quick post today.

Did you know there was a club just for us? It’s called “The Yorkshire Terrier Club of America“, and I’m looking forward to spending some time visiting there.

Of course, I kinda like my site here, too, and hope that you’ll come back!

Have a great weekend.

Historic Day for Animals, ASPCA 142 Years Old

admin | Animal Organizations | Thursday, 10 April 2008

Today is a really big day for all of us animals. 142 years ago today, the ASPCA was started by a man who had a lot of money and liked to use it for good causes. His name was Henry Bergh.

In case you forget what ASPCA stands for, it is American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

Abraham Lincoln was President when Bergh’s passion to help animals came about. It was under unusual circumstances. He had been appointed by Lincoln as a diplomat for the Czar of Russia, Alexander II. He was shocked and dismayed to see how the work horses were treated, beaten an abused.

There was already a Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals in London, which he visited on his trip home to America. This was his inspiration to start a similar organization here in the USA, making it against the law to abuse animals. He called animals the “mute servants of mankind” when he argued his case.

Ultimately, his efforts lead to the incorporation of the ASPCA on April 10, 1866, 142 years ago today.

It is interesting that AFTER this organization was started, a similar one to prevent cruelty to children was formed, and Bergh served as a Vice President of the organization for a period of time.

For more information on the ASPCA, visit their site at http://www.aspca.org.
