Dog Care During Winter and Christmas

Aspen | Christmas,Pet Shopping,Winter Pet Care,Yorkie Health | Friday, 04 December 2009

I’ve left my owner inside typing (lucky owner) while I’m outside barking because we hear guns going off in the woods….it’s hunting season!  We feel sorry for the deer and other animals that are being hunted, which is kind of strange, because both my owner and I like eating meat.

It made me think of pet safety…around here small dogs have to be careful not only of hunters if we decide to wander off in the woods, but also of bears in the summer, and other animals….even dogs….that are bigger than us.

We have done some posts in the past about pet safety in the winter and during the holidays, and thought we’d give you links to them to save my owner a little typing…the information is important and the same whether it was typed in 2008 or now:

We’ll be back to add more links, I know we have some, we just have to find them.

Hope you had a nice Thanksgiving, and wishing you a happy Christmas season!

Dirt Devils Help if Allergic to Pet Hair

Aspen | Allergic Reaction,Christmas,Other Sites | Tuesday, 17 November 2009

This is a Sponsored Post written by me on behalf of Hoover and Dirt Devil. All opinions are 100% mine.

One of the problems that many pet owners face, especially if you own fuzzy pets like we are is hair or fur all over the floor and carpeting when we shed.  Even though I’m supposed to be the kind of dog that doesn’t shed very much, I do shed quite a bit of fine hair that my owners find in the kitchen…it hides in the carpet, but it’s there and they have to get rid of it.

Another problem with pets like us, is that sometimes our owners are allergic to us.  Not so much dogs like me that have hair that grows, but especially animals like cats who have a fine undercoat of hair or dander.  When you vacuum up hair like that, you want to be using a vacuum that will keep all of that inside. Dirt Devil makes vacuum cleaners like this. They make a lot of tools for cleaning floors and carpets, in all different shapes and sizes, and have parts for broken carpet cleaners and vacuums.

If you are looking for a vacuum that is made especially for those with allergies, when you visit the site that the links lead to in this post, look along the bottom for those made for allergies.

The holidays are here, and the Dirt Devil Holiday Gift Guide has been put together with many great ideas for gift giving. There are gifts for everyone, like small hand-held cleaners for cleaning cars and quick clean-ups, heavy duty vacs for those man-sized clean-up jobs. There are over 300 ways to save money with the gift guide, and people are all trying to do that this holiday season with the way the economy is at this time…there are a lot of great shipping breaks as well.

Things Dogs Should Never Eat

My owner visits a network of other humans that like to talk about all kinds of things.  The other day a woman named Kimberlee Leonard started a discussion with a story about her dog, Chewie, and from the story you can learn a valuable lesson about what dogs should and should not eat.  Here is some of what she shared:

Being a dog owner my entire life and having Chewie for nearly 14 years, I thought I had been through most anything regarding dogs….

Over the years I have learned onions can cause issues with their white blood cell count, grapes and raisins in small quantities can cause renal failure, and chocolate is fine for my PMS but (more…)

Birthdays, and There’s Shopping After Christmas

Aspen | Christmas,Other Sites,Pet Shopping | Sunday, 28 December 2008

I know Christmas is over, and I hope that you had a really good one! We did, and today one of my owners has a birthday, and so we all had a lazy day at home, eating leftovers, and I got a lot more turkey, my favorite! My owner got lots of birthday “tweets” on Twitter and greetings on Facebook, and calls from family, and nice presents, but I was just happy that they were home all day.

Since my owner’s birthday is right after Christmas, this year some people bought her gifts after Christmas because there are such good sales. In fact, shopping after Christmas is a great thing to do if you are looking for the best bargains.

Maybe we have told you before, but we really like Sears a lot because they have the heroes at home program with it’s wish registry that helped provide gifts for children and families of our military. It is stores that care like this that we should support with our shopping dollars, even if Christmas is over. I’m sure you can think of a few things that you didn’t get for Christmas that you might like to buy…or maybe you were given money as a present, you can spend that on yourself, or you can look around at the different departments in Sears for something for your pet if you have one. We like toys and presents too!

Here’s a little video for you to help you understand more about the heroes at home program.

Christmas With My Owners

Aspen | Christmas | Friday, 26 December 2008

We didn’t get a chance to wish you Merry Christmas when we wanted to because our cable internet connection was down, so we hope you had a Merry Christmas.  There are parts of Christmas I like…like opening my presents.  I’m going to have to ask my owner to add a picture later of me opening presents, I got a squeaky toy and loved opening that, it made noise the whole time, and my owners laughed at me the whole time I was opening it.

But the other present, lets just say I felt the same way about it as some children feel when they get a box that they know is cloths.  It was a collar, it wasn’t as fun as the other present, even though it’s nice and has a red bandanna attached to it.

The part of Christmas I don’t like is when everyone leaves to get together with the rest of the family.  Then I am all alone at home.  But today, the day after Christmas was even better, at least to this little yorkie.  There was so much food around the house over the past few days that the 20 lb. turkey that my family bought didn’t get eaten, so they cooked it tonight….I LOVE turkey…so have had my fill.  I’m stuffed and going to lie down and go to sleep soon, but wanted to wish all my readers a late Merry Christmas!
