Grooming Your Own Yorkie Dog

I’ve been thinking about how nice it would be if my owner would get around to clipping the hair around my eyes, and my nails. She gave me a bath and trimmed most of my hair about a week ago. She gets a little nervous with the scissors around the eyes, so I’m trying to get her to look into the Yorkie grooming instructions provided by clicking here, especially since this is specifically about grooming Yorkies, right down to the littlest detail, and because the Yorkie in the picture at the site looks just like me!

And for some more grooming information, let me remind you about some of the posts we have already written on this blog:

  1. Cleaning a dog’s teeth – this was an article we found that tells you how to clean your dogs teeth, and how important it is.  We posted it back when I was having tooth problems.
  2. How my owner groomed me – this post is from almost a year ago, we share in simple terms how I was groomed, but not with the great detail you’ll find in this yorkie grooming instructional resource.
  3. Clipping your dogs nails – here’s another page that we did that you should find helpful, my nails are quite long now, and need trimming.
  4. Not grooming may cause ear infections - this is about ear infections, but has some information about how not grooming the ears properly can lead to infected ears in dogs.

Those are just a few things that we hope will help you, and now it’s time for us to stop blogging so I can beg for treats and then my owner can try to start working on some quilting.

Training Yorkshire Terriers (Yorkies)

Aspen | About Yorkies,Dog Ownership,Dog Training | Monday, 05 January 2009

My owner and I decided to add an article today, I really liked it because it says that Yorkies one of the smartest dogs alive.  It also said that we are very cute, which is true, another reason for the article.  I made her add a few things that may be true for some yorkies, but aren’t true for me.

We like to learn because we’re smart, but we’re little rascals too, sometimes…at least I am.  I hope you like the article, you can click here to read the training yorkies article.

Puppies Going to Prison

Aspen | Animal Organizations,Dog Sites,Dog Training,Dogs,Other Sites | Tuesday, 23 December 2008

My owner cares about all kinds of people, including people in prison, so she’s involved with an organization that sends her Bible lessons that Prisoners do to review, then she sends them back with a nice letter she writes.  She can’t send any information about herself, but loves doing this and has reviewed many lessons and written many letters.

We thought it was nice to hear that dogs are helping Prisoners, too, and not only Prisoners, but people in many ways.  There is an organization called “Puppies Behind Bars” that we saw a program about on television, then read about in our local paper, and finally, we decided to visit their website.

It is amazing how much it means to people in prison to be able to be part of doing something good.  Through this program they are training puppies so many things that I can’t even imagine learning them all myself.  But they are prepared to help people who have disabilities, or people who have injuries like some of our wonderful veterans that are coming home from Iraq, Afghanistan, and other places around the world.  Some are trained to help in homeland security or law enforcement. You know what, there are so many things that these puppies are learning, that I’d just encourage you to stop by and visit the Puppies Behind Bars website and see for yourself.

If you know more about this, are part of this organization, or are being helped by a dog that has been through the program, I’d love to hear from you, please share in a comment, and thank you for what you are doing.

Does a Dog Body have a Language?

Aspen | Dog Training,Dogs | Monday, 06 October 2008

The idea of a dog like me having “body language” can be good or bad. It can be good if it means my owners understand me better, and bad if there are some things that I do that I just want to be between my doggie friends and me.

We are adding an article on dog body language, you can get to it by clicking here.

I used my BEST body language ever yesterday when the family was here celebrating my human grandma’s 80th birthday, and I tricked some of the guests into giving me all kinds of goodies. It was a great day, and I’m so tired from all the fun I’ve been sleeping most of the day.

Dog Biting, What Is It?

Aspen | Dog Training | Friday, 12 September 2008

Recently I had to ask my owner what biting is, what does it mean when a dog bites you?  She smiled, and explained to me what it is, I just didn’t know because I’ve never, ever done it or thought of doing it. I’ve made my version of a growling sound before, which for some reason makes everyone here laugh, I guess it’s not very convincing…but that’s about as bad as I get.

Biting sounds so mean, but since there are dogs that have this problem, we decided that we’re going to ad an article page about it to the “pages” section of the blog, so look for it in the list under “Pages” to the right.
