Android and iPhone App to Manage Pet Care

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Triad Retail Media for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine.

Managing the health needs of a dog or cat can be challenging, but a new App that we just learned about will help to make this so much easier. It’s called the Purina Pet Health App. This app is available for those with Android and iPhone operating systems on their phone or device.

Are your pet’s medical records nothing more than a bundle of receipts and papers? You can enter and store important medical information for each of your pets and keep it handy for future veterinary visits and easy reference. Are you so busy that you often forget to set up, or get to, appointments for your pet? You can use the App to set up reminders for your groomer or veterinary appointments.

Do you travel with your pet? Have you ever thought about what you would do if you had an emergency on the road and wanted to locate the nearest animal hospital or veterinarian? This app will find the closest facility should an emergency arise while you are on the road with your pet. Here is an image of the first “page” of the app. It will give you only a small idea of the power of this tool:

If this pet care App sounds like something that would make life easier for you and your pet, you can click and download here. My owner has Android on her tablet…it’s not a phone, so we’re off to see if there is an Android version of the Purina Pet Health App that is compatible with her device…it’s a lot of work keeping up with the health and wellness of an aging Yorkie.

How to Clean Eyes on a Small Dog

Aspen | Dog Eye Problems,Eye Infections | Friday, 20 January 2012

Cleaning a dogs eyes can be challenging depending upon the disposition of the dog and how used to having the eyes cleaned your dog is.  We liked the video below because it talked about small dogs and why their eyes are more prone to discharge and getting “crusty” dry material around them.

One thing that my owner has not done is to give me a little treat after she is done with my eye cleanings..something that was suggested in the video.  I get nervous during the eye cleaning…and squirm a lot, so she has to hold me gently by the “scruff” of my neck…like a mother dog holds her puppy…to keep me in place while she cleans my eyes.

It is important to keep your dogs eyes clean, and if there is any hair around the eye long enough to get in the eye to cause irritation, it is wise to carefully cut that hair away….or better yet, have a groomer do that for you if you aren’t sure you can do it without harming your dogs eyes.

As for solution to use in the eyes, our vet suggested using a simple saline solution for sensitives eyes that people use for their contacts, so we have been using Bausch & Lomb Sensitive Eyes Plus Saline Solution, a 12 oz. bottle of this lasts for a long time. In fact, the whole family uses it as eye drops for dry eyes, so much less expensive than buying those tiny bottles of eye drops.

Here’s the video on how to clean a dogs eyes:

Irritated Red Eyes in a Dog

Aspen | Dog Ailments,Dog Eye Problems,Eye Infections | Saturday, 16 October 2010

Lately we’ve had a hard time keeping my tear ducts clear and eyes clear of the mucous or whatever that “goo” is that gets in the eye. We went to the vet, and were told that it was allergies.

My owner was trying the home-made drops that she uses for my infections that she makes with Golden Seal, an herb that kills infection, but the Vet didn’t think they were infected. He said that it was more likely to be allergy related. Because of the allergies, my eyes make more goo, which dries in my tear ducts, so my owner has to clean them, which I hate, but it feels good when it’s done.

The vet suggested saline solution, and when we went to the pharmacy to get some, they told us to buy a large bottle of “Sensitive Eyes” Saline Solution by Bausch & Lomb or similar company that makes the same thing rather than waste our money on those little bottles of eye drops. It cost under $4.00 at the time we bought the big bottle and lasts a LONG time. The bottle has a dropper type top with a little lid, so is handy to use right from the big bottle.

Getting the drops into my eyes can be interesting because I like to fight the process as much as possible, but by owner somehow gently but firmly holds the scruff of my neck…the same place a mother dog uses to carry her puppies, and then holds back my eyelid somehow and squeezes a few drops into my eyes…it’s tricky, but she does it, then gently picks away the dried “stuff” from the corner of my eyes, and if necessary gently wipes the “goo” from my eyes with a cotton ball made damp with the eye drops.

She also makes sure that the hair is trimmed around my eyes so that it doesn’t get into my eyes, another thing that causes irritation.

Even though I fight the process, it feels good when it’s all done!

Treating My Pink Eye or Eye Infection

Aspen | Dog Ailments,Eye Infections | Wednesday, 11 November 2009

I’ve had pink eye lately, or some kind of eye infection. My owner has been treating me at home, so far, and will take me to the vet if it doesn’t get much better real soon.  But so far, so good.  She knows how to make natural remedies, and this one is made from a very safe herb that has anti-infection properties.  She makes a tea from it, and puts it into a sterile dropper bottle, then drops it into my eyes the best she can while I shake my head all over the place (I don’t like it) and that’s it!  It doesn’t hurt, and each day they seem to be better.

If you want to know what she uses, you can ask us in a comment, they aren’t posted unless we approve them, so are private.  If your question and our answer seems like it will help someone, we will post it, unless you tell us not to.
