Dogs Can’t Type, Dragons Can?
My owner has me doing a post that’s a lot different than usual today. It’s about something that will help people who can’t type well, or don’t like typing, but can speak. Not the kind of speaking that I do when my owner says “speak, speak” holding a little treat in her hand and expecting me to bark (what I go through just to get a treat!!) but the kind of speaking people do.
First, we went to a website and my owner took a typing test, she didn’t try very hard and didn’t do very well because it was a different kind of test than she’s used to (excuses, excuses), but she did it anyway and here’s the results:

Pretty pathetic, isn’t it? This test is called Dragon’s typing speed test! You can take it too and see if you do better than my owner…can’t imagine that you won’t…I mean 55 words per minute, oy!
The point of the site was to prove that you can just talk, and this software will do all the typing for you, and it’s really fast!!! This means that I could get taken on more walks, be given more treats, and that my owner would have more time to play fetch with me. I think the laptop she uses is a PC, so she wouldn’t use the MAC version of the program…as a dog, I don’t understand what that means, but my owner seemed to know.
So here I am, a dog talking about a dragon…well not a real live dragon…but Dragon Naturally Speaking. If you’re totally confused, then maybe the following video will help:

I have Dragon and I love it. I have to admit that when I write my books I don’t use it because I write better than I “talk” – typing it somehow focuses me. But I use it for e-mails and other writing projects a lot.
The cool thing about Dragon, once you get the hang of it, is that you are able to sit in a better position and you have a lot less stress on your wrists, shoulders and back from typing! Just clamp on your headset, kick your chair back and chat away!
I’ve waited since the days of the Original Star Trek for a computer that I could talk to and would talk back – now if someone will invent software that can have your computer make coffee, sweep the floor and cook. . . . .
